All is well in babyland! My little polish ham is going to bake just a little bit longer and continue to give me that wonderful pressure feeling on my bladder! The braxton hicks contractions are more frequent now, which I guess is helping prepare my mom parts for real labor. Somehow I lost 1lb, so now I'm at 14lbs--OB said it's fine, so I'm okay with that! BP is great, Noah's HR is 145 and strong. My "check" went well. My cervix is 80% effaced, but no dilation yet =( She said his head is definitly way down in position, so I'm locked and loaded and ready to go! Mommy is hoping sooner than later, but it's not up to me, little man has to plan his break from jail on his own! Of course, being my child, it will be the grandest of entrances! So now we wait, and wait, and wait.... Although, the close and more anxious I get, I may resort to some self induction techniques.....
I guess I should pack my bag and get the carseat in the Jeep fairly soon, huh? Feel free to leave any comments of things that I should absolutely have in my hospital bag or something you found comforting, necessary, etc. I printed off the generic check list of items to take, but experienced mom's and dad's are always the best! Update everyone after next Wednesday's check-up.

Take granola bars and snacks. Seriously. The nurses at the hospital still believe a laboring mama should be starved. It's nonsense and you will need your energy! The only way to get food though is to sneak in your own.
ReplyDeleteIf you've thought about a doula, I really encourage you to give that a serious consideration and interview a couple. They are phenomenal at helping things run smoothly when birthing in a hospital. Let me know if you need some names or referrals.

Yes, a doula! You, and especially Jason, will be so happy to have an extra pair of hands. She will free Jason from constantly having to get you water, snacks (honey sticks gave me a crazy boost of energy in my pushing stage!) and allow Jason to be there solely as emotional support.
ReplyDeleteJeff was incredible throughout my labor and he chocks that completely up to having someone else there to help him, help me. Despite how many classes we went to (as you may or may not know, we took Bradley classes in hopes of a natural birth, but you can still benefit from such teachings if you plan on a medicated birth) there is no way he could've remembered every pain management technique we learned. Juli, our doula, aided in knowing where to rub, and when. She brought aromatherapy oils to wave in front of my face when I felt nauseated. She even would read me, my pain level, and advise Jeff on when would NOT be a good time to talk to me, etc.
If you have access to a tub, I recommend some old school Adidas flip flops. Made getting in and out of the tub safer, not to mention, your feet off the the hospital floor.
I ended up over packing, actually. But that's always better than under packing!
Enjoy your last few weeks as much as possible. And, I am saying that with a newborn in my arms—who pretty much hasn't left my arms in 8 days. Which means even the brushing of teeth has been put on the back burner. :)
If you haven't read it yet, I posted my birth story on our blog. http://littlebrust.blogspot.com/
