2 month check-up--my pork chop!
We went on Monday for our 2 month check-up. He is growing like a weed thanks to the good mommy juice :)! Here are his stats:
Height: 24.75" 95th percentile
Weight: 12lbs 14oz 75th percentile
Head Circumference: 38.5" 10-25th percentile (has daddy's small head!)
Noah is meeting all his milestones and more for his age (he'll thank mommy later for the therapy sessions!). He has great head control, can do a "mini push up" while on his belly and is smiling and giggling all the time. Mommy reads nursery rhymes to him and we sing silly songs. Noah knows the difference between night and day, but likes to wake mommy up every 3ish hours at night for food. We have good nights where we pass out for like 4 hours! He is quite the little piggy! A full nights sleep seems so far ago. Noah had 3 shots in his thigh and his rotovirus, but that was given oral which he sucked down, no problem! He cried for a couple seconds, but took all his shots like a tough little guy!
We don't have to go back to the Pediatrician until he is 4 months old for his next round of shots and check-up. I can't believe he is getting soooo big! My little man is already 2ft tall! Almost ready to ride Disney rides! Gonna be tall like daddy. Each day, Noah is doing something new and fun. Mommy is having a great time with him. Going to be sad to go back to work. January 18th, Noah meets his new daycare lady, Joan. She is great and I"m sure he will adjust just fine, it's mommy that is going to have the problem...Until next time.

6 week check-up
Noah and I went to the OB and are happy to say mommy has passed her 6 week exam and is "back to normal"--whatever that's suppose to mean! It's amazing how quickly a mommy's body can recover from a birth. All my baby weight and more has melted away thanks to breastfeeding! Yay--I have my body and bladdar back!
Okay, now on to the star--Mr. Noah! He is changing so much! He's starting to sleep more at night, have regular naps during the day and continues to eat like a little piggy. He has gotten so long and cute little chubby cheeks and thighs that I love to kiss and eat. Thanks to mommy being a therapist, we practice our head control, stretches and playing on our belly! He is quite the strong little man, holding his head up and prefers to nap on his belly. Noah is also starting to squeek and coo more. Can't wait to hear what he really has to say! He is smiling more often and loves to "kiss" his puppy, Jasper. Thank goodness he isn't crying as much, now he just stares and is able to track mommy and daddy when we call his name. He loves his bouncer seat and will hang out in it and laugh So everyday is something fun and new. We're going for family pics on Sunday so watch out for the Pakulski-VanDeven clan photos!!

1 month of life...
We made it---Noah's first month of life and mine as a new mommy. A few spills of milk here and there, many diapers later and putting my sleep timer to the test, I'm still loving it!
The month started out very active coming into the world. Noah had to have an IV in his hand for antibiotics b/c my water was broke for >18hrs, as a preventative measure. But all turned out fine. Then, having a touch of jaundice the first week of life and going to the Pediatrician every day for heel sticks to check his levels. Little man took it like a champ! He was on phototherapy for 4 days and that brought his levels down nicely.
He is eating like a little piggy and starting to fill out in his chubby cheeks and getting very long! Noah is making all kinds of sounds and squeeky noises. Of course he's not sleeping through the night! Only in my dreams, which are few and far between. He's up every 2-3hrs to eat. I must say, we've had some interesting nights. I've fallen asleep while breastfeeding--that just leads poor Noah with milk in his hair and milk everywhere!!! But we are getting a routine down now. He's not a big fan of his bassinet yet...I guess maybe it's b/c he's just a little bit spoiled :)
Grandma (my mom) has been here to help. So we all have eaten very well and given me a break. we've gone out to a few places, Noah loves the stroller and car rides.
As far as me, I'm doing great! I'm back to "normal". I lost 22lbs from the 15lbs I gained while pregnant. Thank you breastfeeding!! I'm not totally sleep deprieved yet. Just enjoying being a mommy and getting used to my new title! Keep you posted.

2 week check up...already!
I can't believe my little man is already 2 weeks old...and my actual due date is today!! My mom came down and we went to the pediatrician on Thursday. He gained his weight back and is up to 7lbs 4oz from the 6lbs 13oz he was last week. He's a strong little guy, great head control and very active---just like mommy!! I guess it pays to have a mommy that's a therapist! He had his first round of Hep B shots and took it like a champion, although it knocked him out for most of the day. His jaundice is much better and we don't have to keep him on the phototherapy lights anymore. Noah is eating and pooping like a monster, which keeps daddy busy on the changing table. I love that he is more alert and quiet now, looking at me when I talk to him and of course, when the puppy's get in his face! So far, mommyhood is great and I'm lovin' it!

HE'S HERE!
Well, Beth went into labor at 10am on 10.23.2009. Noah was born at 343am on 10.24.2009 after 18 hrs of labor and 2 hrs of pushing.
He has one nose, one mouth, two eyes, two ears, 5 x 4 on the fingers and toes and is perfectly perfect in every way.
Beth is doing great and couldn't have been more incredible or amazing or beautiful over the last 25 hours. Pictures, video, audio, and unabridged birth story coming soon.

37:4 wk check up
Obvioiusly, I haven't had the baby yet, which is a good thing now, because only I end up getting sick during the last leg of my pregnancy. One of the many wonderful perks from working at a hospital. Thank goodness it's only a cold, so I did something I normally wouldn't do---I STAYED HOME FROM WORK TO REST!!! I felt a little guilty, but guess what? I am starting to get better--imagine that! The last thing I need is to be sick and in labor.
All is still good in the womb. I managed to gain the 1lb I lost last week back, bringing me back up to 15 big pounds. BP is wonderful, Noah's HR is strong and 145-150's. I've progressed some since last week. Now, I'm at the all famous 1cm dilated and 85% effaced, babies head is still way down (just ask my bladdar!). Basically, nothing too interesting since I could stay that way for the next 2 weeks or go into full blown labor in a hour (only in my dreams, right?!) Good thing is, my OB will not let me go past my due date. I LOVE her for that!! She says there is basically no reason, the baby is grown and developed and ready to meet mommy and daddy!! My bladdar couldn't take it any longer anyways. Poor Jason knows where every available public bathroom is located all around Orlando!

36 wk 4 day "fun" check-up!
All is well in babyland! My little polish ham is going to bake just a little bit longer and continue to give me that wonderful pressure feeling on my bladder! The braxton hicks contractions are more frequent now, which I guess is helping prepare my mom parts for real labor. Somehow I lost 1lb, so now I'm at 14lbs--OB said it's fine, so I'm okay with that! BP is great, Noah's HR is 145 and strong. My "check" went well. My cervix is 80% effaced, but no dilation yet =( She said his head is definitly way down in position, so I'm locked and loaded and ready to go! Mommy is hoping sooner than later, but it's not up to me, little man has to plan his break from jail on his own! Of course, being my child, it will be the grandest of entrances! So now we wait, and wait, and wait.... Although, the close and more anxious I get, I may resort to some self induction techniques.....
I guess I should pack my bag and get the carseat in the Jeep fairly soon, huh? Feel free to leave any comments of things that I should absolutely have in my hospital bag or something you found comforting, necessary, etc. I printed off the generic check list of items to take, but experienced mom's and dad's are always the best! Update everyone after next Wednesday's check-up.

35 wk 4 day check up
Soooo...little man is doing great! I've gained a whopping 2lbs this visit for a grand total of---15 big ones! Noah's HR is 145-153 and I have dropped quite a bit. Now, I can breathe so much better, but, unfortunately, my bladdar is taking the load of it---literally! It feels like he's knocking on my cervix door. That makes for a cranky, grumpy mommy! (Jason may use some other adjectives to describe it though) I'm getting those wonderful Braxton Hicks contractions--who I assume was named after a man, b/c they really, really suck! Can't wait for the real thing. Thank goodness for Mr. Epidural! I'm getting that "burst of energy" all the articles say you get before labor starts. I don't know where is comes from b/c sleeping has now become a chore. The simple effort of rolling over now requires me waking up and exerting a physical effort, not to mention the constant urge to pee all the time! The joys of the last month of pregnancy. I really am beginning to wish the whole stork and baby drop off story was true :). Some little things to finalize: packing a bag, organizing the nursery (pics will come, I promise!) and install the carseat.
I am now going to the OB every week, so next week is my "check" to see if I have started to make any progress with getting this guy out. I'm sure you will all look forward to that update next week ;)! Until then, trying to enjoy the last month of freedom and cryless nights, with the exception of my "other" son, Duke, who wakes me every night between 1:30-2am faithfully to go potty. So, the no sleep thing---got it covered! We're going to Halloween Horror nights at Universal Studios Saturday night--maybe I can spook the kid out!

33wk 4 day check up and more...

Yup, that about explains how I'm starting to get these days (I know, you say--"No, not Beth")! Even though all has been absolutely fabulous and I've enjoyed this pregnancy thoroughly, I am approaching the "almost over it" phase. My low back is starting to hurt, wonderful pelvic pressure and just plain tired!! Awww, poor me, right?! I know, I could be worse off...so I'm still very thankful for skinny ankles and my great health.
OB check-up went great. I am probably the only pregnant person who is happy to have gained 2.5lbs this time totally a whopping 13 lbs. Baby has dropped some already making it easier for me to breathe, but shifting the uncomfortableness (is that a word?) elsewhere. OB said it's probably because I have such a long torso that he's settling south. Next visit I was warned that's when they will start "checking" me. Great. But I'd rather know that have a blow out at work or elsewhere! My OB said since I've had a LEEP procedure in the past, it will make for a faster dilation and delivery in most cases. God, lets hope so.
The nursery is coming along nicely. I just washed all the munckin's clothes--holy cow, he has more than Jason and I combined! But somehow, I envision him going through multiple outfits a day (he'll get that from daddy =)). Thank goodness it's still warm here and we can toss a onsie on him if we are desperate. I will post pics of the progress and my baby shower I had down here soon. Daddy will have to help me organize the pics and upload them, I've lost most of my patience with technology these days! Off to organize baby stuff!!

No more "Cleatus the Fetus"
We have decided to name the "fetus". By majority rule, Jason and I will welcome Noah Robert VanDeven. I figured it will suit him since the first 2 letters of his name are the ones I will be using the most! =)

31wk 5 days....
Okay, so this wonderful floating baby thing to the left is really starting to make me neurotic! It was cute when I had, say, 100 days to go. Then it says 75 days--not so bad. Now, it's like 58 days and I swear it's skipping numbers!! I have so much to do!
- birth plan
- finish setting up the nursery
- birth announcement layout/idea
- finalize a name!
- list of stuff to pack for the hospital for the munchkin and I
- book a flight for my mother to get down here
- go buy, ugh, materninty bras
- get the pup-o's ready since Jasper isn't too fond of the stroller and Duke is a mama's boy
- and find some sanity to bottle up and store for those crazy days to come!!
My check up went well. BP is excellent, baby's HR is 136-138 and I measure at 31cm. I did lose 1/2 lb somehow and was told to eat more protein. Which, I feel like I'm constantly picking on food and eating all day, but I guess the little guy is taking every last bit in me! Plus, my job is so active that I must be burning it all up. 8 hrs on my feet and moving all these patients around all day is getting tiresome. Can't wait for maternity leave, even if its filled with dirty diapers, sore nipples and sleepless nights. It will be worth it!

30wk 2day check-up
All is well in baby land! My uterus continues to be a 3 ring circus only w/ less room and more discomfort on mommy's lungs. I feel like a COPD pt--awful! I've gained 1 more pound, BP is outstanding and I measure right on target at 30 cm.
So 10 more weeks to go (mommy would just love the little man to come, oh, say, maybe at 38 weeks!). So I remain patient...okay, BIG lie! I am getting very impatient, wanting everything done, and done right now, my way. Poor Daddy! Good thing he tolerates me or at least pretends to =) Getting excited for the baby shower his mom is planning mid-Sept. I'll soak up the spotlight for now, because it will soon shift and with good reason.
Anybody hear that? Nope, me either! It's the peace and quiet I am enjoying for the last leg of this journey, cause if he's anything like he is in my womb---I'm in big trouble!

Is stubborness genetic?
We went for our 4D ultrasound yesterday. It was so neat to see the little guy. Of course, being my child, he was stubborn as ever! He is already head down, and I mean way down!! Love all that pressure and it's only going to get worse as he grows! Apparently, my placenta is like a down feather pillow because he was face up against it almost the entire time. Normally he kicks the crap out of me, but, for this special occassion, he decided to stay put and take a nap (mental note, 12:30ish-nap time once you're out!). The ultrasound tech also said because I am so small and haven't gained alot of weight, he is kinda smushed in there--sorry kidd-o! We did get some good pics (I'll have Jason update the rest soon), looks just like mommy when I was a baby! Chubby, chubby, chubby, especially his cheeks. He's obviously hogging all the food I eat! Can't wait to meet him and that wonderful personality he has already aquired!

28 week check up
Had my glucose test yesterday and was told today I passed!! Yeah, no more orange drink, although, it wasn't bad tasting at all (thanks Adrienne! =>) I only managed to gain 1lb bringing my grand total to 10lbs. I even went back home and pigged out with the family. But I'll take it and MD isn't worried. Heartbeat is strong at 151 and I measure at 29cm. So starts the 2 weeks appts...

The last leg of this journey...
So (knock on wood), we both made it and sailed smoothly into our 3rd trimester today! My little wild and crazy man continues to kick the living hell out of my insides, but it's a very reasurring feeling. One that I am surely going to miss, but know will be replaced with actual kicks once outside of my belly.
I've been getting that itch to organize and move stuff even more than I already do. I'm sure it will drive poor Jason nuts in a few weeks! I managed to put the stroller/carseat and bouncer together. Now the next big project is the crib. The closet is organized with what clothes we have from newborn-->12 months. But I realized that I have to wash everything first, so it all has to come down and be put back up. That will come later, I just like looking at the cute little outfits for my monkey!
Monday, I go for my last monthly check-up and glucose test. From now on, it will be every 2 weeks. I can't believe how fast things are moving. So, from now until Nov 7, I will cherish my nights of full sleep and freedom.

Back home
We made it home from NY safe and sound late Wednesday night. Had a great time! I guess the little monkey liked the plane ride because he kicked mommy the whole way there and home! My baby shower was so much fun. A few close friends and family came, got a few gifts, but mostly $$ and gift cards, which was easier to take with me! But thanks to my sister-in-law, she shipped the bigger stuff. So Jason and I used our $$ & gift cards to go buy a stroller/carseat combo and a crib mattress the other day. It's so exciting but scary to think that the little guy is coming so soon! I can't believe I only have less than 100 days left and still so much to do---like come to final decision on a name instead of calling this poor kid "fetus"! I'm sure it will just hit me one day, hopefully, since my brain is now in full on preggo-mode! I thought that was just a rumor your brain went to mush, but no. It's official!

24 week check-up
Just got back from the OB. Had a great visit, only managed to gain 2lbs this month totaling a whopping 9lbs gained so far (and the baby is only about 1.5lbs?!). MD says it great and really I should only need to gain around 20lbs. We'll see about that, I am in that time from now until the wonderful task of labor, to have that potential to blow up! Looking forward to that.
So baby's heartbeat is 152 and I'm measuring right on target at 24cm. Couldn't ask for anything better. Little monkey did show the doctor how he likes to contort my belly and make it look lop-sided, which is funny to watch. I like to put things like the remote or phone on my belly and watch him kick it off. He packs quite the punch these days! My poor uterus!
Next visit at 28 weeks is my oh so wonderful glucose test and antibody test so I can get my Rhogam shot (I'm Rh neg). Then after that, it's every 2 weeks to the doctor as I soar into my third trimester. I can't believe it's getting so close!
So I'm off to visit my family back home in Dunkirk, NY on Thursday for about a week. It will be nice to see all my family before my munchkin pops out! And, of course, all the yummy food baby and I will devour!

I've graduated!
I finally finished all 3 of my perinatologist appts and passed with flying colors! The MD said my cervix looked "beautiful" (which is a weird compliment but I'll take it considering the circumstances..) and he doesn't want to see me for 2yrs---when I have my next child!! He's quite the funny man!! So, little man is going to stay in the oven with very, very slim to no chance of premature birth. Thank goodness!!
Speaking of the little monkey, he now seems to have made his own sleeping and very active schedule. I've noticed he moves and kicks constantly once I get up in the morning, lunch time, when I get home from work (when I try to rest!) and then again before bedtime. So far he hasn't woken me up out of my sleep, but I'm sure it's coming as his kicks are very strong and more frequent now. As my wonderful uterus grows, I now feel him kicking around my belly button more, but his favorite spot, of course, is lower in my abdomen conveniently located near my bladdar =).

I've noticed he moves and kicks constantly once I get up in the morning, lunch time, when I get home from work (when I try to rest!) and then again before bedtime. So far he hasn't woken me up out of my sleep, but I'm sure it's coming as his kicks are very strong and more frequent now. I love elastic waistbands, I love elastic waistbands..
As my uterus grows into unholy sizes, I've discovered I can no longer fit into my low rise, cute NORMAL jeans. So...I finally broke down and HAD to buy some maternity pants. This whole elastic waistband thing is definitly strange, but I must admit, it's very comfortable. I went on a purely maternity shopping spree. Old Navy had the best jeans ever---the elastic band doesn't go up to my boobs and I still have a good butt in them! =) Thank god that hasn't blown up out of proportion (yet). I went to motherhood maternity, not so much luck. The sales lady ended up talking to me about her mother with dementia---the entire time! So, I quickly bought a pair of shorts and ran out! Ross, which is like TJ Maxx, had the best stuff ever and really cheap. I found the cutest shirts, capris and shorts. Now, I am the proud owner of mommy clothes. Yeah!
